President's Message
President's Message
Folks,
Last year, we updated the GRJC Constitution. And as part of the update, we included an idea that the president should send a note to the congregation each quarter. The idea was to let our community know about some of the wonderful happenings at the GRJC, and perhaps to fill you in on some of the behind-the-scenes planning. And maybe toss in some musings. So here goes.
Upcoming:
• We're hosting humorist Benji Lovitt on November 2. Benji made aliyah in 2006, and has much to say about Israeli culture from a Texan's perspective. Click HERE to reserve your spot.
• Erev Thanksgiving - This year, we host the interfaith service at the GRJC. If you've never been to the event, it is a treat.
• Light Up the Night is on December 19. Come for the twirling batons of fire! And stay for the latkes. (We could always use a hand in the kitchen that day!)
Looking forward into 2025:
• We are planning a Casino Night for January 25. Save the date. This is going to be a blast.
• Comedy Night is planned for March 8. We Jews know funny.
We have a lot to look forward to at the GRJC.
To add, I'm new to the leadership role, so a few notes about us Needlemans.
Sue and I have been members here for 18 years (chai!). Both our kids became b'nei mitzvah here at the GRJC, and both kids have launched. Daughter Jessica works in data science in Chicago, and son Dylan studies music composition at Brandeis (grad school).
With the kids out of the house, Sue and I are traveling a bunch. We were in Italy and Switzerland for a few weeks in September and plan to do some road tripping to see the kid in Chicago in November. We're catching up on movies, reading books on our front porch, and volunteering around the area. And we'll be spending a bunch of time at the GRJC, so, come say "hi" when you see us at services, or cooking in the kitchen, or greeting at the front door for events.
Thanks,
Mike Needleman
President
